Art and the Spiritual Connection with Renée Bussière

Exploring Humanity in Art

In a society that can often feel disconnected, the intersection of creativity, spirituality, and art can provide a profound bridge. Renée Bussière, an interior designer and artist, shares her compelling story of connection and inspiration through the medium of art, focusing particularly on her encounters with the works of Eugene Delacroix.

A Lifetime of Artistic Exploration

Renée Bussière’s journey, beginning in New Jersey and blossoming in the vibrant art scene of Paris, is a testament to the unpredictable paths life often leads us down. Her career began in interior design, a field she navigated without any formal training but with a strong passion and a foundational understanding of blueprints learned from her father. This passion led her to Paris, where she ultimately pursued her BFA in environmental design at Parsons School of Design.

A Spiritual Awakening at Saint Sulpice

A pivotal moment in Renée’s life was her first visit to Saint Sulpice Church in Paris, where she encountered Delacroix’s mural “Jacob Wrestling the Angel.” This artistic revelation was akin to a profound human connection, sparking decades of meditation and introspection. For Renée, the painting became a mandala, inviting her to explore its depths both intellectually and spiritually—an experience she believes many can relate to when faced with transformative works of art.

The Intrinsic Connection Between Art and Spirituality

Renée’s story underscores a common theme among creatives: the inseparable link between art and spirituality. Her Buddhist beliefs and continuous pursuit of understanding through meditation mirror the spirit of many artists, who find in creative endeavors an expression of their inner lives and spiritual journeys. For Renée, Delacroix’s mural not only served as personal enlightenment but also revealed broader truths about empathy, struggle, and human connection.

Creativity as a Means of Living Authentically

In Renée’s view, creativity transcends traditional boundaries. It is about living life on one’s own terms, challenging societal norms and definitions, and embracing one’s own path. For Renée, this includes not only her professional work and personal interpretations of art but also her choice to live authentically and expressively in every aspect of life.
